Cut Twice, 2026, Toronto, Canada
“Measure twice, cut once! ”
I was invited to be part of the show, Nice Touch, at the Plumb. Art handlers as support structures, invisible labour, holding things up quietly. Measuring tapes are collected from fellow art handlers, institutions, and hardware stores—a one-foot circle in the ceiling drywall—forming a vertical column. Each tape measures and holds simultaneously, collectively distributing force into a temporary structure. Custom-made stickers are made: SKILLED WORKER / UNSKILLED WORKER. Hierarchy embedded in equivalence. Tapes fan outward, resting on the ground like anchors. Like after-use. Like pause. Holding through repetition, strain, adjustment, softness.
